Company-wide DX Conference
The 4th Company-wide DX Conference was held on May 28. This event was an occasion to hear from our five business units, the sales divisions, and R&D unit about their policies and activities related to digital transformation (DX).
In the Sumitomo Electric Group, we view DX as the use of digital technologies to accelerate or deepen the various activities related to SEQCDD that are conducted throughout the organization. SEQCDD refers to safety, environment, quality, cost, delivery, and development. In terms of DX, each division is implementing its own DX plan. These divisional plans are aligned to the Company-wide DX Plan, which was formulated by a committee I chair called the DX Promotion Committee.
At the conference, we heard some very good examples of how digital technologies have been used effectively to solve issues within the divisions. Among these examples were new practices of automating equipment control to reduce production costs and eliminating human error to achieve zero serious claims. Sharing this information was mutually beneficial for all the divisions in attendance. Just as digital technologies have made various aspects of everyday life more convenient, I see that the use of digital technologies is indeed accelerating and deepening SEGCDD in our workplaces and having a positive impact on daily work and manufacturing operations.
In the four years since the Company-wide DX Plan was formulated, the use of digital technologies has become established in each division. What matters now is that we continue expanding these efforts to address the major business challenges we face. While the number of difficult challenges may increase, I expect that every division will be proactive in their approach.
